Direct customer contact.  I love to show and handle products. The buyer, ultimate consumer, distributor etc. must touch and see why would they need us. I am not interested in 'Big Box Outlets,' unless it is to get product in at the store or regional level. That is the only way to have your product stand out from the other 12,000 that these stores carry. I also believe that products can achieve success (volume, margins et al) from the top down. That is get enough consumers interested and THEY will force shelf position.

Why do reps sometimes ask for upfront fees? Aren't they supposed to be 100% commission?

Upfront fees may be required when the rep has to expend time and effort to build your market or your channel.
